Sin is Fun

Lets be honest sin is pretty fun. Hebrews 11:25 says that there is “pleasures of sin for a season“. This is probably the biggest road block we face in Christianity in America. It would be different if we were preaching every Sunday morning that people should stop hitting theirselves in the thumb with a hammer. People wouldn’t be struggling to follow that sermon one bit because anyone that has hit themselves with a hammer knows you don’t want to do it twice.

But because people enjoy sin they struggle giving it up. Many times they just don’t want to give it up. What we need is for people to lose their taste for sin. There used to be a brand of cereal that I used to eat almost every day. One day just like normal I opened a new box of the cereal, poured it in the bowl and looked down and there was a rather large dead bug in it. I immediately threw the cereal away and have never eaten that brand again even though I used to love it. Once I saw a side of it in that light I never wanted to try it again.

Even though you can find pleasure in sin for a little while, it is easy to lose your taste in it and see how deadly it is. People may think a drink is not that bad, that is until you see how is destroys lives. People may think a little bit of porn doesn’t really hurt, until you see how it tears families apart and can destroy lives. So to see people turn away from sin they need to see the fruits of what sin can lead to in their lives. “Sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” James1:15 That will turn someone away quicker than a bug in cereal any day.
